Another Bonus to Article Marketing - Sharpened Skills!

from Suzanne Lieurance, the Working Writer’s Coach

sharpenerAs you get into article writing for the purpose of online article marketing, you’ll probably find there’s a wonderful bonus to all this.

Once you start cranking out short articles on a regular basis, you’re bound to sharpen your article writing skills. These sharpened skills will translate to much of your other nonfiction writing.

For example, I’m working on two assignments for articles for print publications right now. And I find that it’s much easier these days to come up with catchy titles for my articles and to create a slant for each piece, along with a lead sentence for each article that really “hooks” my readers.

How about you?

If you’ve been into article marketing for a while now, have you noticed other added bonuses?

Please share them with us in the comments section.

Happy writing!

Article Ideas Are All Around Us!

IdeaFor many writers, the biggest challenge in writing articles on a regular basis is coming up with plenty of ideas.

Yet, article ideas are all around us.

Any time you gain or have information about something that someone else might want, you have an idea for an article.

Here are some places all around you to look for article ideas:

1. Your email - often friends or family will ask you a question they want answered. The information your provide in your answer could be valuable to other people as well. For example, the other day one of my coaching clients asked me how to choose different listservs and forums for writers that she should join. My answer to her turned into an article.

2. The library or bookstore - I love to read books. When I write short reviews these reviews are another type of article that I submit to online article directories.

3. Your recipe files - If you love to cook or bake, then it should be fairly easy for you to come up with some great recipes to submit to article directories.

4. Interesting people you know - Interview an author, a doctor, a coach, a personal trainer - just anyone who might have some interesting story to tell. Write up your interview and submit it as an article.

5. Your own problems - Readers love tips about all sorts of things dieting, investing, dating, exercising - create some tips sheets and submit them as articles.

6. Your family - Whether you’re dealing with an ailing parent or an unruly teenager, you can probably come up with an article about it that might help others in a similar situation.

As you can tell, article ideas are everywhere.

Where do YOU get your ideas for articles? Please leave a comment and let us know.

Lieurance-King 2009 New Year’s Article Challenge - Day 15!

Hello, and welcome to Day 15 of our current article challenge.

Every week we’ll be sharing writing and marketing tips here from writers who have accepted the current challenge.

Linda Della DonnaToday’s tip comes from freelance writer Linda Della Donna.

Here’s Linda’s tip:

My writing tip for writers is simple and it is one I live by: Never discuss your writing with a non-writer. They won’t get it. They won’t understand. And they’ll think you’re crazy.

Save your writing discussions, your creative ideas, and your stories to share with other writers. There is nothing worse than the blank look in a non-writer’s eyes to “kill” the creative juices.

2009 New Year’s Article Challenge - Day 3

write a noteWow! The new year is buzzing along. It’s already Day 3 of the Lieurance-King 2009 New Year’s Article Challenge.

Writing an article a day can be challenging to any writer since we all have some many other things to keep up with. But, generally, I find it easier to meet the challenge of writing an article a day, or an article every couple of days, by first deciding what it is that I’m wanting to promote during this time, then I base all my articles around that.

For example, I’m the coordinator of the Children’s Writers’ Coaching Club at the National Writing for Children Center, and I want to promote membership in the club these first two months of 2009, so I will write articles that will help me do that. I will also craft my resource box at the end of each article to lead readers to the Children’s Writers’ Coaching Club page at the National Writing for Children Center site.

To make it easier to come up with article topics for this challenge, first decide what your overall purpose is for writing your articles. Then, create a list of topics that will serve that purpose.

Try it!

Happy writing!
